Individual Tuition
..............................................................................................................
Each pupil learns at a different rate and each will encounter topics they find harder to grasp than others. For this reason each pupil is individually assessed to ascertain their strengths as well as their weaknesses so that a learning programme can be put in place to address the weakness and bring all levels together to a standard that is congenial to an eleven plus pass.
Small Group (max.3)
..............................................................................................................
This is for pupils that have been individually assessed and are at a common level and who have the same weakness; Or maybe for school friends who are experiencing the same difficulty within a topic. Small group tuition is not recommended for long periods of time as each individual will work through the difficulty at a different pace. Small group tuition is normally undertaken with pupils who know each other and is not given without the expressed wish and prior knowledge of all parents involved.
School Holiday Courses
..............................................................................................................
These are designed for pupils that have undertaken regular tuition with the Teacher and the 11+ is imminent. Specially designed papers to compliment the 11+ format are completed by the group under examination conditions. The paper is then looked at by the group, under the guidance of the teacher. Any member of the group who has an incorrect answer not only has the benefit of the Teacher's input, but also that of the group. A teacher can explain a concept in many different ways and a pupil still be uncertain. Another member of the group may suggest a totally different way of approaching a question which is immediately understood by the pupil and they tend to 'bounce' their ideas as a group, around the table. This has proved very successful in the past.
Intensive & Specialist Modules
..............................................................................................................
These are designed for pupils who have one subject at 11+ level that they quickly need to improve upon in order to gain the required standard. In addition the modules are also designed for pupils moving into the area from a location where the eleven plus is not administered but they wish to attend a Grammar School after the tests have been taken. Normally, cognitive ability tests are then given by the Grammar School, appropriate to the year the pupil will be entering.
Other Single Concepts (English & Maths) Offered
..............................................................................................................
In addition, tuition for part of a subject is also offered. For example, in Maths a pupil may have difficulty understanding decimals, fractions or percentages whilst other concepts of Maths are good.
In English, spelling, creative writing or grammar may be weak, but other areas are strong. Tuition is offered in such areas of weakness. This is now very important as the 11+ now includes English comprehension grammar and creative writing.
